Mercer-Humanities

What we did today: Today I was out and students were introduced to the one of the textbooks we will use from time to time.

Homework: The research paper is due tomorrow.

Homework begins on page 55.  #15 and 16.  There is also a review sheet that I made that is due tomorrow.

Technology

Students finished presenting their park research.  We then moved on to Scams and Schemes. We looked at the features of a Phishing email and then ferreted them out in some example emails. Worksheets are in the Technology folder to the right. 
 
Tomorrow we will have a quiz on the features of Scams and Schemes.

What we did today:

-Took AR quizzes in the media center.
-Writer's Workshop: Session 7- Stepping into Drama
-Continued writing the next scenes in our narratives.

-Continue writing rough draft narrative. The whole rough draft is due on Wednesday. (Typed would help with revisions.)

What we did today: Today I went over the bibliography for the research paper that is due on Wednesday.  We also had a brief lesson on significance and how that plays a roll in what history is passed down.

Homework: The research paper is due this Wed. the 1st.

What we did today: Today we conducted our candy coated lab

Homework: All lab answers, data(can be presented in sentence form) and analysis must be typed and submitted to Mr. Hill and Mrs Mohr on Thursday this week.

What we did today: Today we talked briefly about the format of the research paper.  The rest of the hour students shared their current events and conversations followed.

-Journal Prompt- Tell about a fun or disastrous vacation.
-Writer's Workshop: Session 6 and 7- Transition Phrases and Knowing when to use summaries
-Continued to write our narratives.

-Read! AR quiz is Monday, Sept 29th! (You will need to take two quizzes on this day if you haven't already taken one on your own time.)
-You may continue to work on your rough draft story if you would like. We will have time in the media center to type.

Student teams finished up their Research Presentations in preparation for Monday presentations.  Each group was assigned a part in another state yesterday and researched specific information about their chosen park.

What we did today: Today we spent time in the Media Center researching sources for the research paper.  Some students were very productive, some were not.  As a reminder, we will be in the Media Center tomorrow and this will be the last day we will work on it in class.  Any research or work that needs to be done must be done outside of my class.

What we did today: Today students needed to get their historical research question approved by me so they could start their research on Monday.  Students had the opportunity to start their research today.

What we did today:

-Journal prompt
-Grammar quiz: subject, object, possessive pronouns
-Wrote a one-sentence story summary (for our narratives) and turned them in on an exit slip.
-Listened to a 7th grade student writing sample.

Homework:

-Read! You should be finishing up your 1st book and starting the 2nd. The AR quiz is on Sept 29th.
-We'll be writing our narratives on Monday but you can always start writing early over the weekend! ;)
 

Technology

Students finished their Media Life Similes and printed them on the color printer.  They will be hung in the hall for display, many were very creative!  The rest of the hour was given as a typing practice time and computer games as a reward for their hard work!

  In your writer's notebook: Choose a realistic topic from your list, imagine (and write down) a scenario that happens, one that you wish you could find on a shelf. Now make a list of personal traits, wants, concerns of your character. Get to know your character.
