What we did today: Today we read about the final world zone, Oceania.  Students completed their World Zone Reading Guide and received the directions and rubric for the next summative assessment.  This summative assessment is due the Tuesday after Spring Break, the 14th of April.

Today students cleaned out any work in their binders relating to our completed unit, Inside the Earth. We continued discussing the Rock Cycle using a diagram and discussing ways in which rocks can form and the various paths they can take through the Rock Cycle.

WHAT WE DID TODAY:
Students took the Chapter 3 Test today.

TAREA: 
Students should start looking over the vocabulary for Chapter 4. My suggestion is to make flash cards on index card and/or in Quizlet. 

I have a special announcement: 

I have accepted a position with Bloomfield Hills Schools. As of March 18, I will be the Spanish teacher at Way Elementary School. Please know that I did not make this decision easily. My family, more specifically my 3 children, are the driving force behind all of my decisions, and this is a bittersweet choice that I have made with them in mind. I will miss the Norup family very much!! Thank you for allowing your children to be part of my life.

Spanish 1 FARAH 3.12.15

Good afternoon,

It has been a pleasure meeting some of my students' parents last night and this afternoon. I look forward to meeting more of you tonight! 
Below is the 'Tres en Raya' (tic-tac-toe) project that I spoke with some of you about. If your child has not completed this activity, please remind
them to do it as the activities are designed to increase comprehension in our grammar topics.

Make a graphic organizer for ‘ir’ verbs (we did one in class for ‘er’ verbs)










Using a storyboard, write and illustrate a short story or comic strip.






Create a poster explaining the concept of possessive adjectives. (mi, mis, tu, tus, etc.) Make sure to include them all! Illustrate.




Create a poster describing how to conjugate verbs. Be thorough! Give examples using ‘ar,’ ‘er,’ & ‘ir’ verbs.









Draw and label a family tree. Write a sentence under each family member to describe how they are related to another family member. (Ex. Joseph es el padre de Michael.)




Create a poster describing the concept of stem changing verbs. Use verbs ‘tener’ and ‘venir’ to illustrate your point. Be thorough!




Write a short story for children.









Create a poster describing the ‘tener idioms.’ Explain the concept, give  at least 6 examples, and illustrate.




Create a poster with a personal profile for a school newspaper. Describe yourself and your ideal best friend. Add illustrations and/or pictures.



Once you have finished the ‘Recapitulación’ for chapter 3, choose any 2 activities to complete by Friday. If you are an early finisher, you may complete a 3rd activity for extra credit. Each activity is worth 20 points and will be graded on thoroughness, accuracy, creativity, and neatness

Additional option added. Along with having the option to write about your own topic regarding the Holocaust, or the three provided to you, you now have the option to write a persuasive letter to me (or Mr. Yowchuang) stating whether the Holocaust unit should be taught next year. *You must have 3 reasons and don't forget to address a counter-claim!

WHAT WE DID TODAY:
Today, we reviewed the (tener/venir) questions again from the Think, Puzzle, Explore routine from last Thursday. Students also worked on their Test Review sheets.

TAREA:
Complete Test Review worksheets for tomorrow's class. The Chapter 3 TEST has been moved to Friday, March 13 due to a field trip and a half day of school.

Today's homework is a worksheet labeled 7.1.  4th hour should do page 19, #13-18.
 

Science

Today students completed their Inside the Earth Unit assessment. After the test, they organized their binders to prepare them for tomorrow's (3/10) binder check. Students must have their binders ready for this, as it will be graded. Mrs. Mohr's class also completed the Relative Dating activity (this will be graded with the binder check).

WHAT WE DID TODAY:

Language Lab

If you are taking the tener/venir makeup quiz, complete it, then do the following lessons. If you are not taking the tener/venir makeup quiz, you may begin this lesson right away.

  • Read through the material on Possessive Adjectives, and take notes (You may do this alone or with a quietly with a partner)

  • On the left side of the screen you will see a series of links

  • Take the Basic Quiz, and the Mini Test

  • Print out your scores and give to me. This will be graded as homework, not as a Quiz or Test.

  • If you have time leftover, you may get a 'Country Study' sheet, and complete it. Keep it in your binder for future labs. If you previously started but did not complete a country study, you may complete it today. Keep it in your binder.


TAREA:Chapter 3 test has been postponed until next week. Many students needed more work with the tener/venir verbs. The test will be on Wednesday, March 11.

WHAT WE DID TODAY:
We worked on a think puzzle explore routine for the verbs 'venir' & 'tener.'

Tomorrow we will meet at the computer lab. Students will have the opportunity to take a make up quiz for 'tener' & 'venir.'

Today we finished discussing and take notes on relative dating and the principles geologists use to learn about Earth's history and how they figure out the age of rocks and fossils. We looked a pictures of rock columns and utilized the principles to help us determine the ages of the rock layers.  Students also had time to begin working on their Inside the Earth Unit Review packet.

HW: Finish review packet for tomorrow. We will discuss the answers so that students can study over the weekend. Test will be Monday, March 9th.
